What is Oilskin / Waxed Cotton?

In the 1800s Oilskin, also known as Waxed Cotton was invented by Sailors, they wore cotton to allow for full movement while climbing their ships and going about their busy days but they needed to stay dry.

By applying linseed and wax to their cotton outfits wolla they had the best of both worlds.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Cattlemen soon took notice loving the way the fabric bent and flexed with their body as they climbed on and off their horses. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀
With history proving the longevity of the product Oilskin is now renowned around the world for being the best waterproof fabric for allowing full range of movement.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Our best mates deserve to be kept warm, comfortable, and dry whilst retaining their independent movement, and that's why our coats are made using premium Oilskin (also known as Waxed Cotton).

Don't be fooled though, like many fabrics there is a huge varience in Oilskin quality itself.

That is why we only use  premium Australian owned and made black Oilskin.

The quality of our fabrics and the manufacturing process involving internal and external stitching is fundamentally why we have so many reports of our coats lasting 16yrs and longer.
